It was a quick and decisive result when Sergey "Krusher" Kovalev (31-2-1, 27 KOS) scored a technical knockout out against Vyacheslav Shabranskyy (19-2, 16 KOs) in the second round at their November 25th match held at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Kovalev was the first to land a real solid hit in the match, with a short right hand into Shabranskyy's jaw. Shabranskyy tried to retaliate with a quick jab in the chest that knocked Kovalev back a little, but it was a short-lived advance. Kovalev fired back with a powerful body shot and stunning hook that knocked Shabranskyy down to the mat.

Shabranskyy recovered and managed to get back up to prepare for more pain. Kovalev soon decked his opponent with a hard right hit that caused Shabranskyy to double over, momentarily still, until Kovalev added a couple left hooks that sent Shabranskyy to the mat for the second time. Shabranskyy got back up and beat the count, but it was clear he was already in real trouble.

In the second round, Shabranskyy again came out aggressively, getting a quick hit on Kovalev, but Kovalev responded with several forceful right hits that dropped Shabranskyy to his knees. Amazingly Shabranskyy mustered up the strength to get back up and fight on.

Kovalev was relentless though, eagerly walloping Shabranskyy with a series of right-handed swings that left Shabranskyy staggering back to the ropes. At this point, his team was about to signal an official retreat when the referee stepped in to declare the technical knockout. It was a quick but exciting match that saw Shabranskyy hit the canvas three times before Kovalev was declared the victor.

"It is my goal to be the best in the division," said Kovalev when asked about upcoming challengers. "We can make good fights for boxing fans. It's good for boxing history, so we know who is the best. I am ready for any champion. Let's do it. I am ready. I'm back."
